Children's privacy

Only inside an activity, and only after a parent has started one from the app or a child has pressed one of the three buttons a parent assigned. There is no wake word. Nothing a child says switches Jubbo on, and at every other moment the microphone is shut — including while the box sits in a room with a conversation going on in it.

The sound is sent to our servers and turned into text so the activity knows what was said. The audio is not stored. The text exists for the length of that turn and is discarded when the turn ends.

One activity holds a child’s voice for longer: Sound Safari plays the child’s own recordings back at the end of the game. Those are held in memory for the length of the session and never written to disk anywhere.

Transcripts of what a child said are not logged. There is a setting that would log them, it is off, and it has only ever been switched on against the maintainer’s own household.

A first name, an age, and the languages spoken at home and being learned. Optionally a gender, asked only when the box will speak a language whose verbs inflect for it, and used only to choose the right form of a spoken line.

Then: how far the child has got in each activity, and a record of each session — who played, how long, the scores, and a one-line summary. That is what lets the next session continue where the last one stopped, and it is what a parent sees in the app.

No surname. No address. No photograph. No contact details for the child.

Turning speech into text, and generating the voice that speaks back, are done by outside companies under contract. What reaches them is the audio of the turn and the text of the line to be spoken — not a child’s name, age or history.

Nothing is sold. Nothing is used for advertising. There is no advertising anywhere in the box or the app, and no advertising or tracking pixel on this page.

Remove a child in the app and their profile goes. Unpair the box and it forgets the household. To delete the account and everything under it — every child’s profile and progress, the people the box knows, all session history, every scanned chapter and the box’s pairing — open the app and choose Settings › Delete my account. It asks for your password, then it is done: no form, no waiting period, and we keep no copy. If you cannot get into the app, write to info@getjubbo.com and we will do it for you.
